There are several kinds of securities. And accordingly, every country has its form of security. This security is categorized into a different set of categories and subcategories. Mostly security is provided to the VVIPs-VIPs-Sports personality- celebrities or any high profile or political person. Now talking about security categories in India there are 5 types of security  SPG, Z+, Z, Y, and X from higher to lower category. I know it’s confusing to understand these category lets elaborate and know more about the security categories in Indian and who provides them ?. It seems complex but it is simple to understand.

SPG category (Special Protection Group):-

  1. This is the most powerful among all the security categories in India.

  2. SPG is not less than 4,000 personnel in its ranks.

  3. The SPG cover cannot be extended beyond a year after leaving office unless assessment on their threat perception warrants it.

  4. The strength of this security category is remains classified.

  5. SPG is the most expensive security force of them all.

  6. As of now only 6 people in the country are provided with this security.

What is SPG?

It is SPECIAL PROTECTION GROUP armed force of the Union for providing proximate security to the Prime Minister of India and former Prime Minister of India and members of their immediate families wherever they are. It was formed in the year 1988.

The general superintendence, direction, and control of the special protection group are exercised by the Central Government.

Z Plus Security category:-

  1. Z Plus security is provided to VVIPs and VIPs, for example, President of India or Prime Minister.

  2. Z+ category has a cover of 55 personnel including 10 or more commando and police personnel.

  3. Z Plus level of security is provided by NSG ( national security guard) commandos.

  4. These commandos are armed with Heckler and Koch MP5 submachine guns and modern communication equipment, and all the commandos are well trained in unarmed combat and various forms of martial arts.

  5. Round the clock personal security is provided.

  6. NSG ( National Security Guard ) and SPG ( Special Protection Group ) not only provide security to the president or Prime Minister but also to his/her in the family.

  7. Family members of a serving higher political leader or the former higher political leader may if they choose, decline z+ security.

Here We Talk About What is Z Plus Security...

The Z + level of security is provided by the (NSG) National Security Guard commandos. In the Z Plus category, security cover is provided by Delhi Police or ITBP or CRPF personnel and an escort car. When we talk about power, the first ones to grab the seats are none other than our politicians. Only 17 individuals of India have managed to take the shield of z plus. Almost 551 NSG commandos are engaged in the protection of these VVIPs. The people with this security have 36 personnel protecting them round-the-clock.

What is NSG?

That is a NATIONAL SECURITY GUARD (NSG), it's an Indian special force unit which is under the authorities of the MINISTRY  OF AFFAIRS. NSG commandos are also commonly known as the black cat commandos because of the black uniform and black cat symbol worn on their uniform.

Z category:-

  1. Z security is provided to the lower profile person.

  2. Z security has a cover of 22 personnel including 4or 5 NSG commandos and police personnel.

  3. Z security category security is cover by the Delhi police or the ITBP OR CRPF personnel and escort car.

What is ITBP?

It is Indo-Tibetan Border Police, it's one of the is one of the five Central Armed Police Forces of India, which was raised on 24 October 1962, under the CRPF Act. The ITBP was designed for deployment along India's border with China's.

What is CRPF?

It is Central Reserve Police Force it is the largest of India's Central Armed Police Forces of India. It functions under the aegis of MHA (MINISTRY OF AFFAIRS) and the Government of India. It is the duty of the central reserve police’s primary to assist the Union Territories and the State in police operations to counterinsurgency and to maintain law and order.

Y category:-

  1. Y security is provided to the lower-key profile person.

  2. Y category covers 11 personnel including 1 or 2 commandos and police personnel.

X category:-

  1. X category provides security to an individual with the lowest threat risk.

  2. X category is the lowest among security categories in India.

  3. X category has a cover of 5 or 4 personalities it includes only armed polices personnel.

Here were the 5 important SECURITY CATEGORIES IN INDIA.

Agencies like The SPG (Special Protection Group), NSG (National security guards), CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force, ITBP (Indo-Tibetan Border Police) are responsible to provide security to all the important personalities in India according to the threat level. Mostly all the agencies are under Government.

Who decides whether a person should get a security cover or not and if yes then which category it should be? The answer is - The (IB) Intelligence bureau along with the home secretary and the home minister is the decision-maker, sometimes security is provided on the recommendation of the state of government.

What is IB?

IB (intelligence bureau ) is India’s internal intelligence agency run by the Home Ministry of India who is responsible for the collection, analysis, and exploitation of information in support of law enforcement, military foreign policies, and national security objective. The Shrouded in secrecy.

Security is a costly affair:-

As per research reports, it cost more than 240 crores for the protection of important personality. The most expensive of all is the Z and Z Plus Security it is only given mainly to the president or the prime minister and this is barred by the taxpayers but if you see people like celebrity or businessman getting Z security and that is the taxpayer's money then you’re wrong as these people pay their security cost that is somewhere around 14 to 15 lac.

Security failures:-

In spite of such strong security protection which covered well-trained officers of SPG‘s, the NSG, special police force still there are some cases people were killed.

  1. Mr. Rajbir Singh, he was a famous encounter specialist was killed.

  2. Mr. Pramod Mahajan, he was the former union minister was shot dead.

  3. Our former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi who was assassinated by a member of her own security detail.

  4. Rajiv Gandhi, he was also our former Prime Minister was killed by a suicide bomber.
